Frequently-Asked Questions

If I’m selected for the program, does this mean I’ll get a job with American Express?
All program graduates are welcome to apply for open positions at American Express. However, program participation and graduation does not guarantee an interview or job offer. This is a corporate-sponsored community education program.
I have a job right now. Will I need to take time off from work for the Learn to Code Bootcamp?
Yes. This 14-week program is full immersion. This means you will not have time for a job or other activities during weekdays. The Learn to Code Bootcamp will be your full-time commitment between April 26 and July 30 (9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday). Note: Some participants choose to give two weeks' notice to their current employer prior to starting this program as the first step toward making a career change. However, this is not required unless your job will conflict with your ability to participate in the program.
Is it OK to miss a day or two of the program?
While we understand that illness and extenuating circumstances sometimes arise, missing even a day can place you at risk for not graduating from the program. This program is fast-paced and requires 100% commitment. If an emergency does arise, please talk with your instructor to discuss options.
Does the program pay me a stipend for living expenses?
No. American Express will cover the full tuition cost of this program. However, you will be responsible for your housing, food and other personal expenses.
Will American Express or Pluralsight provide equipment for this program?

  1. OS: Windows 10 (NO S mode allowed) or Mac High Sierra or newer
  2. Processor: Dual-core 2 GHz or higher Intel i3/i5/i7 or AMD equivalent; avoid Celeron (Quad-core is ideal)

How will you choose the 20 participants for this Learn to Code Bootcamp?
The selection process will begin with a brief application form. A committee will review these forms and select a subset of applicants by April 2, 2021, for further screening. This additional screening will include one or more online assessments, plus a more in-depth application. From there, the committee will select finalists to take part in an interview process. The 20 participants will be notified by April 12, 2021.
Can I apply to the Learn to Code Bootcamp if I have prior professional experience in software development?
No. This program is designed to help individuals transition to a career in software development and build skills in that area. This is a beginner-level bootcamp.
